About the movie : When I first heard that they were making a Jumanji remake, I was a little skeptical. HOW can you top the original Jumaji movie? YOU CAN'T. But when the first trailer came out I found myself laughing and actually enjoying the trailer, and really wanted to see it. Although Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle isn't as good as the original, it adapts the series, changing it and making it it's own. It tones down the thriller and dramatic elements of the first film, and ups the comedy and action, and it actually works.

In this remake, Jumaji has shifted from a board game to a video game, sucking it's players into a virtual reality set in a jungle. In it, a bunch of teenagers stuck in detention are sucked into the game and take on the personas of characters Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson), Professor Shelly Oberon (Jack Black), Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), and Franklin Finbar (Kevin Hart), each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Together, this cast packs a hilarious punch. From the banter between Johnson and Hart, Gillan's flirting scene, and literally every time Black is on the screen, the comedy in this film is ever present, and very well done. The actors play off each other brilliantly, and the chemistry between them keeps this reboot afloat despite some gimmicky plot points and tired action.

It's not a heavy hitter, it's not as emotionally pulling or thrilling as the original, but the comedy and flashy action is good enough for a quick couple hours of entertainment.
